Description

commonly known as common bluebeard or blue spiraea, is a deciduous shrub that typically grows to 3-5’ tall. It is native to China and Japan. Coarsely-toothed, ovate to oblong-ovate leaves (to 3” long) are dull green above but grayish-tomentose beneath. Violet blue flowers (to 1/4” long) bloom from late summer into fall in dense cymes extending from the upper leaf axils. Flowers, leaves and stems are aromatic. Flowers are very attractive to butterflies, bees and other beneficial insects.
